Even though the story of the encounter between Jesus and Nicodemus is not a resurrection story as such (it is found in chapter 3) it nonetheless serves as an excellent commentary on Easter Faith. Jesus deliberately uses an ambiguous term that we usually translate “to be born again” to describe what Easter Faith is like. We are a new creation because of the Resurrection. No longer are we creatures trapped by the limitation of mortality. Death is no longer the enemy to be avoided at all cost. Instead it is an entry way into a richer and fuller life that we have in God. Our prayer during the 50 days of Eastertide should focus on living in a way that reflects that our true home lies elsewhere.
