For the next few days the daily reading will be taken from the Book of Deuteronomy. This is the fifth and last book of the Torah, the most sacred texts for Israel. The word “deuteronomy” means second law. It is structured as the last sermon that Moses gives to the Hebrew children before they enter the promised land. In it he re-capitulates how God has been with the Chosen People and what God expects of them. This is instructive for our own prayer life as well. It is a helpful practice to recall with a grateful heart the guiding hand of God during our life. After doing so, we will be inspired to love God and follow the way of God with all our hearts.
