“In Christ shall all be brought to life, but each one in proper order.” These words of St. Paul can serve as the background for the Assumption of Mary. The feast says that Mary already enjoys the ultimate triumph to be won by Christ on the last day. That she does so is “proper order.” Since she was the first to believe that her son would be the Savior of the World it is fitting that she be the first to share in his triumph. One image of Mary that speaks to the feast is taken from the Book of Revelation: “The ark of his covenant.” Like the ark created by Moses Mary carries within her that which is most precious — faith in her son.
