We begin a new Church year with a reminder of the universality of the people of God. “Many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven.” Talk about the coming of the Lord at the Advent season begins with a call to expand our vision. Instead of limiting our care to my family, religion, country the coming of Jesus requires that we include others. We live in a age where differences are highlighted and borders are created. When Jesus comes such distinctions will be done away with since we are all part of the family of God. Advent provides us the opportunity to practice being inclusive in the present.
