Did you ever notice that in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis that God does not create the water? “A mighty wind swept over the waters” in the beginning according to Genesis 1:1. On the second day God created “a dome in the middle of the waters, to separate one body of water from the other.” The Biblical author was not trying to anticipate later theological arguments about creation “from nothing” but rather to highlight God’s almighty power to bring order out of chaos. In these chaotic times we must remember this lesson: that no matter how things seem to be going God continues to be at work, creating a world that is a fit home for those creatures who bear “the divine image.”
