For the next several days (until Lent starts) we will be reading from the epistle of James. This is one of the so-called “Catholic” epistles, meaning that it is universal in its scope. One line in the epistle caught the attention of Pope Francis. “God tempts no one.” The Holy Father suggested that the usual way we translate the Our Father with the line “lead us not into temptation” can make it look like God is capable of tempting us. The original Greek of the Lord’s Prayer does not imply that but the translation is open to confusion. Hence, the Pope called for a new translation of the prayer, but there has been push back since we don’t like our prayers to change. Stay tuned!
