“Since the children share in blood and flesh, Jesus had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way.” The Fourth Eucharistic Prayer puts it that Jesus was “like us in all things but sin.” Since Jesus is like us he had to learn — maybe particularly to learn how to deal with difficult people. Jesus had to cope with frustration. I’m sure he didn’t hit the nail on the head the first time in Joseph’s carpenter shop! He became so tired of his lack of success that he was tempted to chuck the whole thing at times. But, the author of Hebrews insists because he went through the stuff we all go through “he is able to help those who are being tested.”
