Jesus’ relatives said, “He is out of his mind.” We are tempted to dismiss those who don’t think like other people think, who don’t look at things the way other people do. “That dude is crazy, man.” But the life Jesus demonstrates that there are times that the conventional wisdom is flat out wrong. What is crazy is to go along with thinking that getting is more important than giving, that there are those who are “other” than I am that I don’t need to care about, that it is better to be powerful than to be loving. Do we see things as Jesus saw them? Are there enough gospel values in my life that my relatives think that I am out of my mind?
