“Jesus is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them.” This passage from the Letter to the Hebrews is very consoling. Jesus is always able to save — no matter what we’ve done, no matter what has been done to us, no matter how things seem to be going we can rely on Jesus. The surprise in that quote is that Jesus makes intercession for us. We tend to think of making intercession to Jesus for help. The epistle stresses that Jesus is not above us, but rather with us. The “better promises” the epistle talks can be understood in Jesus last words: I will be with you always to the end of the world.
