The conversion of St. Paul was one of the crucial moments in the history of the Church — so important that the Acts of the Apostles tells the story three times and Paul himself reports on the incident in the Epistle to the Galatians. The conversion moment was not in the drama of getting thrown to the ground or being blinded by the light. Conversion came when the Apostle heard the words: ‘I am Jesus the Nazorean whom you are persecuting.’ At the moment Paul realized that everyone bore the divine imprint of the Son of God. What empowered him as an apostle, what calls us to become apostles, is the realization that everyone is a brother or sister who desperately needs the faith we possess.
