When was the last time that your prayer led you to dance? For most people in the USA my guess would be “never.” There is a long tradition of dance as prayer. Miriam led the dance “with tambourines” after the deliverance at the Red Sea. David, girt with a linen apron, came dancing before the LORD with abandon. Somehow in our culture we have lost that exuberant style of prayer. It has become something associated with bowed heads and folded hands. However, if we take the incarnation seriously, if we trust that God shares human life in the person of Jesus, then our prayer should be “embodied” as well. When the love of God fills you, give a shout and set your body in motion.
