Joseph was sold as a slave into Egypt by his brothers. Many adventures later he became the Grand Vizier of the pharaoh and his brothers who betrayed him came to the Grand Vizier since they were in need. When he revealed himself to them he did not reproach them but said, “It was really for the sake of saving lives that God sent me here ahead of you.” That is a vivid reminder that God uses everything. Was it God’s will that Joseph’s brother treat him ill? No. But God used even that sin for some good end. When we think of other sinful activities or painful events — abuse, loss, abandonment — remember that God can take even Good Friday and turn it into something good.
