“We hold this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us.” At certain ceremonies the performer or athlete on receiving their award will say, “First of all, I want to give God the glory…” While that is not a bad thing to say in itself you kind of hear unspoken “… that I am so great.” St. Paul does not think he is great. He knows he is flawed and weak. But he also knows what God can do with the likes of him. That is our story as well. We might feel inadequate to the task of “speaking what we believe” but it’s not about us but about what God can do with the likes of us.
