In the creed we profess to being an apostolic church: “one, holy, catholic and apostolic.” This does not simply mean that we are successors to the apostles. Sts. Peter and Paul would surely be amazed at the magnificent churches built over their tombs. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, while faithful to their teaching, would probably be a surprise to them in it development. Saying we are an “apostolic” church really means that we have the faith because someone before us shared it. We know of the life and message of Jesus because the apostles told us about it. The Church has remained apostolic by handing on the message received. We continue as an apostolic church by sharing our faith with the people woven into the providence of our life.
