Jesus asked the crippled man, “Do you want to be well?” He never answered the question but had all of his excuses ready on why he wasn’t well. I wonder if the same isn’t true of us. Jesus asks us: do you want to be well? do you want to be holy? do you want to be a saint? We have our excuses but they all boil down to the fact that we have comfortably settled into the life that we have. We might know that we aren’t living as fully as we should but we aren’t sure about taking the next step toward health, holiness, sanctity. C.S. Lewis once said, we are called to be holy but we are content with being decent.
