One theme woven throughout St. John’s Gospel is “the hour.” Jesus objected to his mother’s request at the wedding feast of Cana and the authorities failed try to arrest him during his public ministry because “his hour had not yet come.” But at the Last Supper we are told that the “hour” had come, the hour of our redemption. In English we have a world “timely” which captures a similar idea. We must be sensitive to those who are in grief and not impose our sense of when it is time to move on. We must be aware of those who are offended and sense when it is time to forgive and seek forgiveness. During prayer seek guidance on what time it is today.
