The story of the selection of Matthias as an apostle is very instructive on what it means to follow the will of God. Peter and the other followers of Jesus first search the scriptures about what to do. Then, they look at how their experiences guides their choice. But at the end of that process the will of God was still not completely clear. “Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias.” In other words, finding the will of God is sometimes a crap shoot! The lesson for our own lives — we can’t wait until certainty to move forward. We discern as best we can and then make the best decision that we can letting God fill up our lack.
