“I am convinced … that you are full of goodness … but I have written to you rather boldly in some respects to remind you .. to be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.” You can picture the Church at Rome reacting negatively to St. Paul’s letter. He doesn’t know us, they might have said, why is he fussing with us? Paul anticipates that reaction by saying — I know you are good but you can become better. There is a saying that the good is the enemy of the better. We grow content with what is instead of seeing what more we can be. Take being hospitable, for example. Are there ways we can let everyone who comes through our doors that “all are welcome in this place?”
