The people of St. James have endured the loss of the building where generations have worshiped. That loss led to a discovery — that being church is not defined by a building. It is a community which welcomes, prays, forgives, serves, grows which makes Church. It is true, however, we expect the place where we gather on a Sunday to provide an atmosphere which lifts our minds and hearts to God. The hall must be clean, warm, well-lit, comfortable. Having beautiful sacred objects and living plants and flowers show the value we attach to gathering together. Excellent acoustics and decorative fabric all set a tone. Of course, the most important preparation for worship occurs in our own hearts. We do all we can to welcome God.
