Emergency services are available to all clients with social service referrals. Emergency Food, Infant Formula, and Diapers are provided Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Homeless Lunch Program
The Lunch Program began in 2005 to address the needs of the homeless people who have no way of cooking or refrigerating food. Lunches are served Monday through Thursday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Second Saturday of the Month Pantry Program
St. James Food Pantry participates in the Food Depository's Mobile Pantry program to provide supplemental perishable and non-perishable food products to individuals every Second Saturday of the month, 9 am to 12 pm. This service is designed to ensure that all people in Cook County have access to food during times not typical for food distribution.
Off-Site Food Distribution
Food Delivery Program
The food delivery program for homebound seniors and disabled has been in existence for over 10 years. The program makes our services accessible to homebound seniors living in senior residential buildings in our area. Food is delivered to seniors and disabled every Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 am and 2 pm. To receive service, call St. James Food Pantry Monday morning (preferable time: 8:00 am) at 312-842-1919.
Social Service Partnerships
St. James Food Pantry collaborates with other social service organizations to assist clients looking for help beyond food.
Greater Chicago Food Depository
St. James Food Pantry partners with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to provide Food Stamp Application Assistance (SNAP). Service hours are Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
Community Care Alliance of Illinois
Community Care Alliance of Illinois (CCAI) provides comprehensive person-centered care specifically for seniors and persons with disabilities in the Medicaid program. Service hours are third Tuesdays of the Month from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
Oak Street Health
Oak Street Health provides primary care clinics designed for adults with Medicare. Representatives from Oak Street Health are available at the pantry on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
The John Marshall Law School, Fair Housing Legal Clinic
Working to end housing Discrimination. The Fair Housing Legal Clinic law students assist persons in receiving and retaining the housing of their choice, free from discrimination. Service hours are every third Tuesday of the Month from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
Pantry Holiday Programs
Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors
On Thanksgiving day, Seniors and those who have no families are invited to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at St. James Church Hall 12:00 pm to 3 pm.
Christmas Reception for the Homeless
Each year, the St. James Food Pantry hosts a reception for the homeless on Christmas Day. In addition to a hot lunch and gifts, homeless clients get to celebrate Christmas in the company of St. James family and friends from 12 pm to 3 pm.
Christmas Gift Programs for Families
In partnership with our sharing parishes St. Edna’s in Arlington Heights, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview, Faith Hope and Charity in Winnetka, and other Friends of St. James, over 300 families receive gifts for Christmas each year.
