One of the glories of Catholic devotion is the communion of the saints. Our ancestors have not gone from us, just gone ahead of us. They remain with us by praying for us and praying with us. They offer us support and provide guidance. Even Jesus rejoiced the saints who were still with him. He told the crowds: “Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad.” In our own life of faith remembering those who have been the saints of our life can be a great spiritual support. Think of those who shared their faith with you, who showed you what it meant to live as a child of God. Call upon them as you strive to live your life with the same fidelity with which they lived theirs. Let the saints who have preceded us in the faith inspire this question: what kind of ancestor do you want to be?
