After the Resurrection Peter and six other disciples go back to Galilee, to where it all began. Peter wants to go fishing. He is a fisherman, after all. One thing he knows is how to fish. Alas, nothing went right until he saw a distant figure on the shore who was, in fact, the Risen Lord. Jesus said to them, “Children, have you caught anything to eat?” They answered him, “No.” So he said to them, “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.” I imagine if Peter had recognized Jesus he would have scoffed at the idea. What does this carpenter know about fishing. But they heed the advice and have success. Peter learns that you can’t go back. Once Jesus is in your life you are different. Your whole orientation is now directed to loving God and neighbor. He would soon, as Jesus had promised when they first met, be fishing for men.
