“I am going fishing,” St. Peter said. You can catch him thinking — Okay, Jesus rose from the dead. What do I do now? I know how to fish so I’ll go back to that. But he found out he couldn’t fish — he caught nothing. And the encounter with the Risen Lord let him know that he couldn’t go back. He was a changed man because of his faith in Jesus. It reminds me of a conversation with a volunteer. After working with the poor and need he said, “You ruined my life. I had planned to making a lot of money, getting a big house and driving a nice car. Now I see I am connected with everyone, that I have an obligation to care for others, that I need to simplify my lifestyle.” Once Jesus takes hold of us we can’t go back. Today’s prayer: how is my life different because of my faith.
