There has been 2000 years worth of questions about what motivated Judas to betray Jesus. The Bible does not tell us and we have no other sources so we can’t know for sure. My own speculation is that Judas never knew Jesus as a person. For him, Jesus was the savior of the nation, the deliverer of his people, the long awaited Messiah. Thus, when the saving, the deliverance did not look as Judas expected he turned on the one who had been his Master. If he had simply looked in the eyes of Jesus as a person he would have found there compassion and forgiveness. We tend to treat people as types as well. What we must do is meet everyone as a unique individual
