In the first few chapters of Acts of the Apostles, St. Luke paints an idealized picture of the early Christian community where everyone got along and shared everything and all sang kumbaya together. Of course, people haven’t changed over the past few millennia so the harmony didn’t last. The Hellenists complained against the Hebrews
because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. Racism is something the church has had to deal with since the earliest days. The solution the apostles came up with was to develop leadership from within the other racial group. Healing the lingering racism in the Catholic Church would benefit from a similar solution today. Let us work and pray to promote vocations which reflect the diversity of the Church.
