In the days when Christ was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. This is the way the Epistle to the Hebrews talks about the scene in Gethsemane. Remember he prayed there that the “cup would pass him by.” “He was heard” we are told — and yet he still had to go through the passion. A powerful reminder of how prayer works. God always hears us. However, there are times when the plan of God for our good runs counter to what we would prefer. Like Jesus we must have as part of our prayer “but thy will be done.”
