The “leaders, elders and scribes” were amazed the Peter and John spoke so boldly about Jesus perceiving them to be uneducated, ordinary men. The Apostles didn’t talk theology or philosophy with the leaders — they couldn’t have done so even if they wanted to. They talked about their experience, about how Jesus had changed their hearts. Catholics are being called by Pope Francis to become “missionary disciples,” not only to hold onto the faith but to share it as well. Like Peter and John this only means that we pass on to others (most often without words!) what God has done in us. Because of Jesus we have experienced forgiveness, compassion, mercy, healing. We are missionarires by passing those experiences on to others in our life.
