The apostle “Judas, not the Iscariot” that we usually refer today as Jude Thaddeus asked Jesus: “Master, then what happened that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?” This question occurs in the extended “Last Supper Discourse” that we find in St. John’s Gospel. In it the Lord speaks frankly to his disciples almost as a last will and testament. The answer to the question is that revelation is as much dependent on the receiver as it is on the sender. Those who love Jesus and “keep” is word are capable of understanding who Jesus is. Without that foundation who Jesus is and what he is about does not make any sense. Faith seeks understanding, not the other way around.
