The word of the LORD came to me: Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre: … You shall die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners. Ezekiel, like many of the prophets, was concerned not only with the fate of Israel but also with the surrounding nations. They urge the nations to get together because their petty squabbles imperiled their very existence in the face of the threat of the conquering empires. The lesson for us serves as a warning not to stay isolated in our individual silos. In a hostile world we should not imagine that we can continue safe in our tiny island. We need to care for each other and support each other if we are to thrive.
