After the conquest of the Promised Land Joshua gathered the Hebrew Children before him and reminded them of all that God had done for them from the call of Abraham down to their taking possession of the land. The catalog of blessings included the lesson that there were people in the land before they got there whose planted vineyard and dug well they, basically, stole. To this very day the rightful owners of the land is in dispute. Nor is that phenomenon limited to the Promised Land. The Irish look on the British and interlopers and Native Americans can claim that Europeans took their land. Resolving these disputed claims remains an ongoing challenge but the starting point is that everything is a gift from God.
