Everyone likes a mountaintop experience when things are going well, when there his energy and excitement, when you feel on top of the world. Peter captured how wonderful a mountaintop experience is when he said, “Master, it is good that we are here.” He wanted to build tents so they could stay in the mountaintop, not have to deal with all of the trouble and difficulty down below. He perhaps had not noticed that Moses and Elijah were talking to Jesus about “his exodus,” that is his passion and death. Even on the mountaintop of transfiguration the future required that Jesus climb another mountain, that of Calvary, to fulfill the divine plan. The mountaintop experience does not shield us from the need for transforming grace.
