A line from the epistle to the Hebrews caught my attention: faith is evidence of things not seen. When you see a police procedural on TV, evidence consists of something tangible, something you can put on display — “peoples’ exhibit marked A.” How can “things not seen” produce evidence? I have been fascinated by the ground breaking work the particle physicists are doing nowadays. For a complete non-scientist like me it seems amazing that they can infer all sorts of things about the most basic make up of created reality from effects they observe. They can’t see a Higg’s boson but they know it’s there. I wonder if that is similar to what the Bible tells us about faith. Faith provides the evidence of things beyond our ken.
