Complaining is part of the human condition. The Hebrew children complain because God gave them bread from heaven instead of Chilean Sea Bass. Moses complained because of the complaints! Just kill me now, he prayed, so I won’t have to put up with the grumbling. In Jesus time the disciples complained because of Jesus’ unjust (from their point of view) expectation of them feeding the crowd. And I have no doubt that someone complained that Jesus multiplied too much bread and fish and he had to go around and fill those extra baskets with the leftovers. When we are tempted to complain, let’s take time out and spend a moment to give thanks. The elders were wise telling us to “count your blessings.”
