One popular saying among believers is that God doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle. I don’t know if that is true. In fact some of the terrible things that happen in our lives or even in the world at large are beyond handling. They overwhelm our poor abilities to cope. There are somethings that happen which are outside of the will of God and, hence, incomprehesible. God permits even ungodly things as the price of human freedom. The response that Jesus instructs us to make confronting overwhelming difficulty is to learn from him. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. The yoke of Jesus is trusting that God can transcend the horrible so that it becomes something good. We learn from Jesus that Good Friday becomes Easter Sunday. As we go through our own particular difficulties we must trust the wisdom of the elders: God can make a way out of no way.
