“Come to me” and “learn from me” are two of the commandments of Jesus. We come to Jesus by placing ourselves in prayer and acknowledge him as “the way, the truth and the life.” What do we learn from Jesus? For me, the “school” of Gethsemane is the place of the most profound learning. It is there that Jesus offered to God his idea of how things should go. “Father, if it is possible…” But he appended to that request this prayer: “But not my will, but thine be done.” If we can learn to turn over our preferences to God and trust in the divine plan for us no matter what it holds, then we are assuming the easy and light yoke of Jesus.
