“Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” These words, addressed to Mary by Elizabeth, are a challenge to each of us. Do we have the same belief, the same trust in God? Do we trust that if we seek first the kingdom of God and divine righteousness that we will receive all that we need or do we worry about “what shall we eat?” and “what shall we wear?” (Matthew 6:31-33). Do we believe that if we “give, it will be given to you” (Luke 6:38) or do we hoard what is ours? These days before Christmas are not about memories but invite us to examine what it means to accept the Christ child into our lives.
