I think it was C.S. Lewis who said that in the end either we will say to God, “Thy will be done” or God will say to us “Thy will be done.” Sin at the foundation is not breaking this, that or the other rule. It is, instead, a succumbing to the original temptation. The serpent said, “God knows well that the moment you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods.” We sin when we set ourselves above God, determining what we want or what we want to do ignoring what God wants. We have the illusion that we can create our own happiness instead of receiving happiness as a gift from God. Adam and Eve neglected to look around the Garden and understand that the God of all creation was certatinly smart enough to know what was best for them.
