The Bible makes it clear that God doesn’t give up on us. Jesus has been working with his disciples for several years but they still don’t get it. After a particularly obtuse comment Jesus in exasperation exclaims, “Do you still not understand?” But he didn’t fire them. He continued to work with them bringing them along in their own pace. In the Book of Genesis we find God not giving up on creation even though things didn’t go as God had planned: no desire the human heart conceived was ever anything but evil. He calls Noah to be part of a “new, improved” creation since the first one needed a re-boot. The Biblical story is repeated throughout the history of the Church since God has continued to inspire the ongoing conversion of believers into a closer following of Jesus. The Biblical story is repeated in our own lives when God gives us another chance to pick up again after we have fallen. As the song goes, a saint is just a sinner who fell down, but then got up.
