The number of young adults leaving the Church has become a flood — perhaps as high as 85% both Catholic and Protestant no longer practice the faith. In a recent report on this phenomenon entitled Going, Going, Gone one of the authors, Robert McCarty, observed that many of these young adults have a greater sense of responsibility toward those who are suffering or in need than the population at large. This provides a seed of hope. The Bible teaches that love of God and love of neighbor are two sides of the same coin. If young people do possess a love of neighbor there is a road toward coming back to God. Faith in God would inform them of why it is necessary that we do so.
