“So there are three who testify, the Spirit, the water, and the Blood, and the three are of one accord.” This passage from the first epistle of St. John has been commented on and wrestled with throughout the ages. During the times in which the epistle was written there was a great controversy over the incarnation — how could God have become a human being? The Johannine Church defended the orthodox faith by insisting that Jesus was 100% a human being even as the Son of God. What this passage suggests is that when we look at the story of Jesus from his conception, through his public ministry and including his death we observe that God used the life of Jesus so we might enter eternal life.
