The narrative that has dominated Christian thinking for the past few centuries goes something like this. God created the world good. Adam and Eve messed everything up. God decided to send the divine repair man to mend a broken creation. And since the offense was against God only God could atone for the offense. There is another way of looking at salvation history suggested in the Bible. According to this perspective the whole point of creation was so that God could become part of it. As the letter to the Hebrews puts it Jesus is the one for whom and through whom all things exist. In this narrative creation exists so that God could partake in human existence and humanity can share in divinity.
