January 13, 2021 By Church Staff

At the heart of the Christian mystery is that Jesus, the Son of God born of Mary had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way. Jesus was a genuine human being will all the limitations implied while at the same time the incarnation of the Second Person of the Trinity. The gap between heaven and earth, between God and humanity, is usually viewed as unbridgeable. In Jesus the gap closed: a human being bore divinity. That implies that all of humanity is capable of bearing divinity. St. Athanasius put it paradoxically: God became a human being so that human beings could become God. We are not worms crawling through the mud but destined for the eternal realms of Divine Love.
