JANUARY212026

January 21, 2026 By Church Staff

When the young David confronted Goliath he said: “I come against you in the name of the LORD of hosts… Today the LORD shall deliver you into my hand.” One of the constant human delusions is to imagine that the greater force is what leads to peace and security. The lessons of history is that even the mightiest of empires fall when it relies on force alone. A society not build upon justice and equity is doomed to collapse. Goliath thought that since he was bigger and badder than David that he would conquer. David put his trust what God could do with him. We see a similar dynamic up close inour city with the call for more law enforcement to eliminate crime. But only a society where everyone has a stake in the welfare of the community and sees that they have a place in that community will ever be peaceful. We remember Dr. King this week who proved that the great force and power of the state was not as powerful as justice and right. As we are seeking a way forward in the current national and international tensions keep justice — the plan of God — as the north star guiding us forward.
