The confrontation between the prophet Nathan and King David after his adultery with Bathsheba has plenty of drama. When David condemned the man in Nathan’s parable the prophet wheeled on him and said, “You are that man.” The scene reminds us of the human capacity for self-deception and self-justification. Sometimes we need the dramatic confrontation to make us face up to our actions. In the news this past week young athletes who had been abused by the doctor who was supposed to take care of them have confronted him in the courtroom. He could no longer live in denial over the harm he had inflicted on this women. While our own sins might not be as public they still harm others and need to be repented.
