The Prophet said: The way of the just is smooth. Jesus said, “Come to me … and I will give you rest.” These promises, though, come with a cost. To experience the smoothness, the rest we must first take on the “yoke” of Jesus. We should look on this as a swap — taking off the yoke we ordinarily carry and putting on the yoke of Jesus. We do so by praying the prayer of Jesus in Gethsemane: “Not my will but yours be done.” Our yoke is demanding things go a certain way for our happiness. The yoke of Jesus is trusting that the plan of God is for the best. Giving up our need to be in control makes things easy and light.
