Like King Hezekiah we often pour out our hearts in prayer asking some favor. We feel blessed when the favor is granted. I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you… I will add fifteen years to your life. I was talking with a priest once who was recovering from a life-threatening aneurysm. He told me that he had prayed and the Lord had promised him fifteen more years. As the years passed and we were approaching the fifteenth year he told me he was going to ask for another fifteen! Maybe the best way to present our prayers to God is following the example of Jesus in Gethsemane: “Father, if it’s possible … but not my will but thine be done.”
