JULY212016

July 21, 2016 By Church Staff

“Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?” This question posed by the disciples to Jesus is one worth answering. Jesus left us no list of commandments, no pillars of behavior to guide our actions. Rather, when asked specific questions he responded in parables, in open-ended stories that the listener must puzzle out for him or herself. We must ask what the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, the Sower of Seeds has to do with me. This is a deliberate strategy on Jesus’ part. He understands that many different experiences and feelings have shaped our lives. One-size-fits-all does not work for the disciples of Jesus. Each one of us must take the Word of God, warm it in our own hearts and then put it into action.
