There is a scene in the movie Braveheart when the king is in his tower trying to decide what to do when one of his aides makes a suggestion. The king responds, “who is this that presumes to give me advice,” and throws the aide out the window. Something similar is happening with the Prophet Amos. He was from the southern Kingdom of Judah but worked as a prophet in the northern kingdom. They didn’t want to hear his message. To Amos, Amaziah said: “Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah!” Often we can dismiss what someone is saying not because of the message but because of who they are. God can speak even in the voice of children so stay alert!
