Says the LORD. Indeed, like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, house of Israel. The image of God as the potter and we the clay reminds us that we are not finished yet. The potter continues to mold and shape the clay until it looks as intended. So God with us. We all too often feel stuck, this is just the way I am, the wounds I carry are too deep for things to change. The prophetic word is that is not the case. God does not give up on us. God continues to work with us. It is only when the clay is fired that it becomes set and easily broken. In addition, as the Japanese art of kintsugi demonstrates, even a broken bowl can bowl can we made into something beautiful. No matter what has happened to us or what we have done, God can take what we are and make us into a new creation.
