The prophet Hosea had his work cut out for him. He worked in the northern kingdom of Israel and they felt they had all they needed — God had given them the land, a king, and a place to worship. They felt fat and sassy… so much so that they forget about the God who gave them so much. The prophetic insight was that the only way the people would recover their sense of God was by going back to the time before they had the blessings — the time of wandering in the wilderness during the exodus. Thus says the LORD: I will allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak to her heart. Not more, less was the way to find God.
